Reconstructed Shree Kupkanya Secondary School was inaugurated by Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), which is handed over by TATA Trust and Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha (a CSR wing of SIPRADI Trading Pvt. Ltd.)

As a part of “Nepal Earthquake Rehabilitation Initiative”, TATA Trust in partnership with Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha; 7 different schools were reconstructed which were destroyed by the April 15 earthquake. Shree Kupkanya Secondary School was reconstructed with the modern layout resistant to earthquakes and designed with disabled-friendly facilities in Sindhupalchowk. The reconstructed school is the biggest amongst the rest of 6 schools in Sindhupalchowk. The devastating April 2015 earthquake had terrible impact destroying the classrooms, science lab and other facilities at major schools.

Similarly, Mr. Asish Deshpande, Chief Financial Officer – Tata Trusts, Ms. Amrita Patwardhan, Zonal Head (North) along with central government and local government authorities were also present in the ceremony.

“It was quite unfortunate that an earthquake occurred in Nepal in 2015 where many lives were lost, homes and schools were damaged, families were displaced and their livelihoods were affected. However, this gave TATA Trusts a golden opportunity to intervene beyond India and give assistance to the affected people in Nepal post the earthquake in 2015.” said Mr. V.R. Mehta, Trustee – Sir Dorabji TATA Trust. “We hope this place will bloom the best minds of the country in the future.”

Similarly, in the program, Former Prime Minister talked about how the friendship between Nepal and India goes back to the ancient times and the mutual respect both countries have for each other. He further emphasized on the ever ready support of India for Nepal’s economic drive. Whereas Mr. Krishna Subedi, District Education Officer, CDO talked about the difficulty the school faced in conducting classes after the building was destroyed during earthquake. He even stressed on the point of studying outside after the earthquake damaged the classrooms. He expressed his gratitude to the Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha for their invaluable support to the school with partnership with TATA Trust.

The newly reconstructed school has 14 classrooms including furnished library, computer lab and staff offices. The building is well-furnished, resistant to earthquakes and designed with disabled-friendly facilities which took 18months for construction. Even due to the non-motor-able road facilities, SSS and TATA Trusts took the responsibility in constructing the well-furnished school.

Apart from that, this Project also includes:
• Gender and disabled friendly toilets
• Furniture and other equipment
• Awareness activities for students and teachers on Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (EWaSH)

Tata Trusts in partnership with Sipradiyan Sahayatha Sansthan have started “Nepal Earthquake Rehabilitation Initiative”, in which they have decided to support the reconstruction of 7 schools and a health post in Sindhupalchowk, which was the epicenter of April 2015 Earthquake in Nepal. Along with Shree Sharada Higher Secondary School, Shree Jalpadevi Secondary School, Shree Marming Basic School, Shree Thapinarayan Basic School, Shree Kodari Secondary School, Shree Janjyoti Basic School and Phulpingkatti Health Post will be reconstructed with the aim to provide safety to the students, the teachers and the community for sustainable education and health care.
Adding to that, Mr. Shambhu Prasad Dahal, also the Senior Vice Chairman of Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha stated,”We have been giving our heart and soul to these rehabilitation project for the past few years. From structured engineering to the fully furnished classroom facilities, minor detailing has been taken care by the SIPRADIAN SAHAYATA SANSTHA. We have always given our sincere dedication to the CSR activities and will continue in the future as well.”
